South African Emergency Management Services says an overnight fire in a multi-story building in Johannesburg has left dozens of people dead.
In a statement by the spokesman of the service, Robert Mulaudzi, the youngest victim was aged less than two years old, 73 bodies had been recovered while 52 others were injured and some bodies were burned beyond recognition.
Earlier today 10 people were confirmed dead with the number of fatalities increasing rapidly as the floor-by-floor search for bodies progresses.
Officials said the cause of the fire remains a mystery, with multiple patients being treated on the scene and transported to various healthcare facilities.
