The Delta State Police Command’s officers managed to free a kidnapped victim alive, and the alleged kidnapper was shot and killed just as a pump action gun with six rounds of ammunition was found on the hoodlum.
According to reports, the victim (name withheld) was taken hostage together with his car in Ugborikoko on December 28, 2022, at around 10.15 p.m. The kidnappers then drove off in the victim’s vehicle.
Following a report that the abductors were driving the victim’s car toward Agbarho, the Divisional Police Officer Agbarho Division sent officers to the Warri-Ughelli Expressway to conduct a thorough stop and search in an effort to free the victim and apprehend the culprits.
It was learned that the police stopped a Mercedez GLK SUV (registration number withheld) that matched the description of the victim’s car while they were conducting the search.
Oghenetega Ovwa, the culprit and the driver of the car, was detained right away. He is 25 years old and is from Ugborikoko. The authorities discovered one pump action gun with six rounds of ammunition after examining the automobile.
The suspect confessed to being a member of the abduction gang that earlier abducted the owner of the Mercedes Benz, according to DSP Bright Edafe, the police public relations officer for Delta State Command.
The gang members then engaged the police in a gunfight when they arrived at their hideout in Ugborikoko in the Warri South Local Government Area.
However, the suspect was wounded during the intense gunfight, while the other gang members managed to flee.
The victim was saved unharmed and is again with his family again.
According to the police spokeswoman, a manhunt is still going on for the gang’s evading members.
