A Policeman has been killed in an attack on the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu South Local Government Area.
Giving details of the attack, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye, said a section of the compound had been razed but the attackers could not gain access to the main building following quick interventions from the police and army personnel from 82 divisions.
Okoye said the destroyed gatehouse will be rebuilt, and that the Commission is proceeding with its preparations for the 2023 general election in Enugu state and the entire country as scheduled.
INEC has faced multiple attacks in the buildup to the 2023 elections with the commission warning that the general election was at threat of being postponed due to serious threat of cancellation.
