The Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu has won the elections, defeating the duo of former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
According to the National Returning Officer and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmud Yakubu, Tinubu polled 8,805,420 votes in the February 25 election.
Declaring Tinubu as the winner, the INEC boss said, “That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
His closest rival, Abubakar scored polled 6,984,290 votes while Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, was third with 6,093,962 votes. The trio won in 12 states each.
Although, Tinubu lost his perceived stronghold of Lagos, he won in Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Kwara, Jigawa, Zamfara, Borno, Benue, Niger, Kogi and Rivers.
Meanwhile Atiku secured victories in Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Yobe, Gombe, Osun, Adamawa, Taraba, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa
Obi won in Cross River, Nasarawa, Enugu, Lagos, Imo, Delta, Abuja, Edo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Abia, Plateau, among others.
