Humza Yousaf has been sworn in as Scotland’s first Minister in a ceremony that blended formal tradition with his Pakistani heritage.
Humza pledged an oath of allegiance to King Charles, although he has made it clear that he wants to replace the monarchy with an elected head of state, if he is able to fulfil his pledge of splitting from England.
He is expected to announce his cabinet which may risk worsening the deep divisions in his governing party.
Yousaf narrowly won a leadership race on Monday after a bruising contest that followed the surprise resignation last month of his predecessor, Nicola Sturgeon, who had dominated Scottish politics for almost a decade.
