The Uganda Deputy Minister for Labour, Charles Engola, has been reportedly shot dead at his home in the capital, Kampala by a soldier guarding him.
The soldier, who is yet to be officially identified, then shot himself dead minutes later.
Engola, who was a retired army colonel served in the government of President Yoweri Museveni as junior minister in charge of labor.
The motive for his murder was not immediately clear, but witnesses claim that the soldier was heard yelling about being owed for a long time.
Videos on social media show locals gathering at the scene in shock with a number of people injured in the incident.
