A Federal high court sitting in Kano, has nullified the candidature of the Abia state Governor-elect, Alex Otti and all the candidates of the Labour Party in Abia and Kano States.
In a suit filed by Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the labour party and the independent national electoral commission, INEC, he challenged the emergence of some candidates in the party.
In his ruling, justice Mnyunusa ruled that the failure of the labour party to submit its membership register to INEC within 30 days, before their primaries renders the process invalid.
According to the judge, the party did not comply with the provisions of the electoral act, cannot be said to have a candidate or declared winner of an election; thereby declaring the votes credited to Otti wasted votes.
Recall that the labour party had accused the Lamidi Apapa led faction of the party of approaching a court in Kano state to seek the nullification of the party’s recent electoral victories.
