Troops of the 192 Battalion of the Nigerian army have uncovered an international ammunition smuggling syndicate transporting ammunition to Anambra State.

Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu who disclosed this said the suspects were arrested on Saturday while they were conveying the smuggled ammunition to Anambra before running into a stop-and-search cordon mounted by the army along Ajilete-Owode Road in Ogun.

Nwachukwu said the truck was loaded with 720 packets of red cartridges of 12 calibers, containing 25 cartridges per packet, and an additional 250 packets of live (black) cartridges containing 10 packets each.

He added that the suspects, a Ghanaian, Eric Seworvor, and the driver, Lukman Sani, have been taken into custody and are helping with ongoing investigations into the ammunition imported from Mali, via the Idiroko border.
