The Niger State Police Command has discredit news making the rounds that a bandit leader has declared himself governor of the state.
Spokesman for the Command, Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement today said such reports are circulated to cause chaos and unleash terror in the state, describing it as false and unfounded.
According to him, the joint security teams in the state in collaboration with the State Government are working assiduously to address the security challenges at hand, while tactical teams are placed at strategic locations within the volatile areas for security coverage.
The state Police Command was responding to media reports claiming that a bandit leader, Dogo Geide, had announced himself to be the governor of the State, calling for allegiance from the communities while assuring them of their security and welfare.
