European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says there were no plans yet for EU citizens’ evacuation from Gabon.

Addressing reporters in the Spanish city of Toledo after a meeting with some world leaders, Borrell said military coups are not the solution, but the election in Gabon was full of irregularities, arguing that a rigged vote could amount to a civilian institutional coup.

Earlier, United nations secretary general spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric stated that the body condemns the action in Gabon and is closely monitoring the situation.

The Toledo meeting involved EU foreign ministers discussing means to support the regional Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) bloc regarding the Niger coup.

Meanwhile, 64-year-old ousted President Ali Bongo has called on world leaders to take quick action for his rescue.
