Former Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has died aged 86.
Berlusconi who bounced back from sex scandals and corruption allegations, died at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, after months of battling lung infection linked to a previously undisclosed case of chronic leukemia.
The former prime minister first came to office in 1994 and led four governments until 2011, when he was elected to Italy’s upper house, the senate.
Reacting to the news, Italy’s defense minister Guido Crosetto said Berlusconi’s death was the end of an era while former prime minister and leader of the political party Italia viva, Matteo Renzi, said Berlusconi made a great mark with in the history of the nation.
