Finland’s President Sauli Niinisto has expressed shock over an incident which left 27 people, most of them teenage school children injured.

The 27 were part of a group of 14- and 15-year-olds on a field trip together with their teachers when a makeshift pedestrian bridge collapsed and injured them in the Finnish city of Espoo.

Chief Physician, Eero Hirvensalo said the injuries were not life threatening, as majority of them were mostly limb fractures.

Police authorities said an investigation into the accident had been launched adding that the temporary bridge had been built from plywood while construction was ongoing in the area.
