President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approve a request to pay a judgment debt sum of $ 566.7 million, £ 98.52 million, and N226 billion.
This was disclosed in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, at plenary.
The president explained that the request was a sequel to the decision of the Federal Executive Council to liquidate top-priority judgment debts and general judgment debts owed by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies through the issuance of promissory notes.
The promissory notes will then be redeemed over time through provisions in the budgets of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Recall that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, had earlier revealed that the ministry, recovered the total sums of £6.32 million, € 5.4 million and $ 390 million from various jurisdictions.
