The senate had a rowdy session today during the screening of the last ministerial nominee, former minister and senior advocate of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo who was a subject of debate by lawmakers.
Senator Darlington Nwakocha and Eyinaya Abaribe sponsored a motion to step down the nomination of keyamo for refusing to honor invitation by the senate, to probe the special public work programme under the Buhari administration.
The programme was coordinated by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) which was under the ministry of state for labor and productivity, which Keyamo supervised.
The government earmarked N52 billion to recruit 1,000 youths from each of the 774 local governments for three months and pay them N20,000 each.
The Senate Public Account Committee subsequently began a probe on the program to track implementation but the then minister shunned the invitation by the committee, accusing them of corruption and attempts to hijack the program.
However, Senate leader, opeyemi bamidele moved that the senate moves to an executive session to resolve the issue.
