The Nasarawa State Police Command has detained 810 alleged criminals between January and December 2022.
When addressing reporters on the command’s accomplishments for the year on Friday at the Command Headquarters in Lafia, the state’s commissioner of police, Maiyaki Baba, disclosed the information.
He clarified that among other criminal acts in the state, the majority of the suspects were detained for armed robbery, kidnapping, damaging railroad tracks, and vandalism.
In its efforts to combat crime and criminality in the state, the command from January to December 2022, according to him, has achieved some very outstanding things.
“Of the 810 individuals who have been detained this year, 136 have been charged with armed robbery, 112 with kidnapping, and 138 have been accused of being members of cults.
“While 365 other individuals were detained for various criminal charges, we also detained 59 rape suspects.
“Among the items found were 704 live rounds of ammunition, 44 guns, 14 mobile phones, six motorcycles, five automobiles, and N600,000.
While the remaining suspects are still being looked at at our facilities all around the state, 374 of the suspects have so far been charged in court and 23 of them have been found guilty.
The commissioner of police thanked the Nasarawa state government, traditional leaders, and citizens for their cooperation throughout the year while issuing a warning to all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay. He also assured them that the command would continue to fight crime to a standstill throughout the state’s 13 Local Government Areas.
