The Vatican has confirmed that pope Francis will have surgery on his abdomen this afternoon at Rome’s gemelli hospital,
In a statement, Vatican stated that his medical team had decided a surgery was required and he’s expected to stay in hospital for several days to recover.
Pope Francis was due to be taken to hospital following his weekly audience at the Vatican this morning, where he made no mention of the planned operation.
The pope, who marked the 10th anniversary of his pontificate in march, had part of his colon removed in an operation in 2021 and has moving in and out of the hospital in recent weeks.
