A veteran Politician and Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Ekiti State Governor, Chief Jide Awe says President Bola Tinubu’s unflinching stand on fuel subsidy and desire to revamp the security structure is proof that he is ready to take the hard decisions for the growth of Nigeria.
Chief Awe in a chat with Adamimogo 93.1FM, Lagos said the President had shown that unlike the previous administration he would not hesitate to take tough decisions for the long term good of Nigeria.
He said, “the former President, Muhammadu Buhari was the Minister of Petroleum. Indeed, he initiated the issue of removal of fuel subsidy but did not end it. But kudos to our President, Bola Tinubu for boldly coming out to say fuel subsidy has ended.
“I think all we need to do is to be patient as Nigerians and see how things would pan out,” Awe said.
Describing Nigerians as “panic buyers and panic sellers”, knocked citizens of the country for failing to knocked citizens of the country for creating artificial scarcity of fuel and urged everyone to support the fuel subsidy removal.
He said the President’s remarks on security had also shown a likely radical departure from the previous administration.
The President in his inaugural speech said, “Security shall be the top priority of our administration because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence. To effectively tackle this menace, we shall reform both our security DOCTRINE and its ARCHITECTURE. We shall invest more in our security personnel, and this means more than an increase in number. We shall provide, better training, equipment, pay and firepower.”
Awe also said there was a need for more devolution of powers to the state and local governments so as to reduce the burden on the federal government. He urged the State and Local Government to take advantage of the President’s previous stance on restructuring and ensure that all the tiers of government are fully involved in the affairs of governance.
The former Ekiti State Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and All Progressives Congress, APC, in his review of 2023 elections and agitations by the South East for both the Presidency and higher offices within the National Assembly said there was a need for South Easterners to play national politics rather than regional politics.
He said Igbo politicians must learn to build trust and forge friendships and political relationships across the country if they are serious about winning the Presidency in the future.
