U.S. President Joe Biden has announced a landmark deal between Boeing and Vietnam Airlines worth $7.8 billion, which is expected to support more than 30,000 jobs in the United States.

Biden is in Vietnam for a visit intended to deepen economic ties between Washington and Hanoi as part of efforts to reduce America’s reliance on China.

According to the White House, Biden met with Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other leaders to promote the growth of a technology-focused Vietnamese economy.

His visit, which followed the G20 summit in India, is the first by a US president to Vietnam since Donald Trump’s 2019 trip.
