United states has vowed to continue to support Israel, faulting the surprise attack by Hamas with a note of warning to allies of Hamas to expect stiff resistance.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said Biden has dispatched his top diplomat Antony Blinken to Israel, to deliver a message of solidarity and support while national security adviser Jake Sullivan also said Washington was talking with Israel and Egypt about the idea of creating a safe passage for civilians out of Gaza.
Earlier, President Joe Biden said Hamas does not represent the ‘legitimate aspirations’ of Palestinians people, describing the group as an enemy of freedom and peaceful existence.
Former Israeli negotiator, Daniel Levy, said Hamas’s attack on Israel, retaliation from Israeli military and the gruesome pictures that have surfaced can be clearly categorized as war crimes.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes has bombed Gaza repeatedly overnight ahead of a possible ground offensive to root out Hamas, with dozens of its fighter jets striking more than 200 targets in a neighborhood of Gaza City that it said had been used by Hamas to launch its unprecedented wave of attacks.
