Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, today opened his defence at the state Election Petitions Tribunal, calling his first witness, Jimoh Gbadebo, a Ward Collation Agent for his party who admitted that elections were disrupted in seven out of 14 polling units in Ward 6, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
According to Gbadebo, masked political thugs invaded the unit, destroyed the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, ballot boxes and papers about four hours into the election, which made INEC Collation Officer in the ward record zero votes for all the parties in the election.
Meanwhile, an officer of the west African examination council, Waec, Fasasi Sarafa, presented the certified true copy of governor Dapo Abiodun’s WAEC certificate to the panel, following allegation of certificate forgery levelled against the Governor by one of the witnesses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the course of proceedings at the tribunal.
In it’s ruling, the tribunal admitted the scanned copy of the subpoena issued on WAEC and adjourned till Monday, 7th August, 2023
